I like Deepak. I’ve been to his center in Carlsbad, get his newsletter, have read his books and follow him on Twitter. This tweet, sent over 6 months ago, sounded amazing and I wanted to retweet it but something haunted me. SOMETHING just didn’t fit in my mind….Then I realized it was the word Intoxication.
Within this context, Webster’s second definition made perfect sense.
2a : the condition of being drunk b : a strong excitement or elation
If you’ve ever been in love, you’ve probably at least considered classifying the feeling as an addiction. As it turns out, scientists are discovering that the same chemical process that takes place with addiction takes place when we fall in love. These are the “feelings” of love we are used to. A lack of inhibition, dizzy, a high. Ok but… It’s Webster’s first definition that made me pause.
1: an abnormal state that is essentially a poisoning
You know those elegantly decorated cone snail shells lying on the beach? Well, beware! Those predatory marine creatures hide a poison harpoon that is deadly. Oh and if a snake or lizard looks like it would make a fabulous pair of boots, it’s likely armed with venom and or toxic saliva…
Hmmm… I’ve run into people so afraid of love that they are barely alive. For them, I’m guessing love could be like poison. Beautiful to observe but fatal.
Amazingly though, some toxins may also hold cures to many human diseases. Scientists have discovered that natural poisons, toxins, and venoms contain chemicals that can be used to create an array of drugs for treating everything from chronic pain to cancer. Call it the poison paradox — or The Venom Cure.
So what was the revelation in Deepaks Tweet for me?
#1 I over analyze EVERYTHING 😉
#2 Love can be so complex, so full of joy, so risky and so healing but most of us only apply it outside ourselves. How many of you thought of yourself when you read about being high from love? How many of you thought about yourself when you read the words holy or wholly? It seems LOVE is noun that requires courage but also a verb, an action that requires balance. Both allow for us to arrive at a space of worthiness, excitement and joy.
The next time you think about your love life, don’t think about your relationships (whether you’re married, single or just occupying time in someone else’s bed) consider instead that each one of us has all we need to live life as intoxicated, whole beings. So, it took me 6 months but I’ll be reTweeting Deepak’s message and I’ll hope it hits the hearts of those that need it.
Social Media Tip:
Twitter is a microbogging site that has made big news in the last couple of years. It’s best described as texting for the internet. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user’s profile page. There are literally hundreds of other sites that have sprouted up to help users make better of time using Twitter to do market research or online marketing.
