Our gifts or talents are not always recognized right away. We are all unique and sometimes, we are in circumstances that don’t allow our talents to shine. But if we pay attention, we can see how over the years, we are given the chance to develop our gifts and if we allow ourselves the chance to use them, we can really build an amazing life.
One study found that people who use their strengths every day experienced the following changes at work:
a. Improved health and wellness
b. Less worry, stress, anger, sadness or physical pain
c. A boost in their positive emotions
d. More energy
e. Higher engagement levels on the tasks
I remember reading the Parable of the Talents in the Bible and thinking, it was so harsh and unloving. I couldn’t see that using our talents is a major key to joy. In the parable, the master rewards his servants according to how each has handled his stewardship. On the surface, it seemed to me like the Master was just greedy. But as I matured, I realized that he is judging the faith of his servants. He has given them something of value and expects them to make something of it. If they do, they are rewarded. The one who “played it safe” not only loses the talent but gets thrown out of the house, where there is “weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
This is not a religious lesson. It IS a spiritual one.
In life, we have ALL been given gifts to use. We can use them or we can let fear keep us from our rewards. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the misery and anger seems higher among the people not living up to their potential.
When I think about my transformation and how I had so much but was not living up to my own potential, I see how this parable was true in my own life. Today, as a life coach, speaker and workshop facilitator, I use my gifts daily. I am overjoyed because I never realized that the rewards come in so many forms. I am in charge of my time, I am in charge f my money AND, I get to help other people! Every single day.
Today, I hope you will consider your gifts and how you can use them.
