I am super excited for this!

I know there is a lot to process these days. I was feeling overwhelmed by all the madness popping up in my news feeds and I thought, “Man, I have got to write a post on this!” Like many of my posts I did the research on processing bad news and I came across a post by Mayo Clinic psychiatrist Dr. Sheila Jowsey. She gives the following advice on handling negativity:
- Turn it off – stop listening, watching or reading.
- Turn it around – do something positive to make the world better, such as volunteering
- Go outside – experience nature
- Exercise – it helps relieve stress
- Be positive – remember that good news does happen
- Talk to your children – their concerns may be different than yours
If bad news becomes overwhelming, Dr. Jowsey recommends you contact your health care provider.
NOTE: Did you know that if you text HOME to 741741 from anywhere in the U.S., when you are depressed, suicidal, or just needing someone to talk to, a real Crisis Counselor will have a text conversation with you until you are feeling better? Not everyone likes talking on the phone so this is a great option. Spread the word. It’s a free service.
Now… Here’s my two cents.
I just want you to do me a favor and take some time to feel yourself. We have heard that we should be the change. But sometimes we must learn first to just… be. Where are you? Nervous, sad, mad, hopeless? Feelings are ok! You have choices in how you respond to feelings and if you will do what it takes to learn how to process them in a healthy way. You can determine how you will manage YOUR inner space in many ways.
One way that I manage is by breathing. YES. It’s also a simple but very effective way to manage stress. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath through your nose. Let it fill your lungs and belly. Now, let it out through your mouth with an “ahhhhhh”. When you breathe deeply through your nose, it’s a sign for your sympathetic nervous system to relax. If you tend to feel anxious THIS is the breath to master. (If you tend to feel lethargic or depressed try breathing in through your mouth. Heated breath energizes the body.I do this while exercising and it really helps me in my overall mental and physical health.)
Body and mind are ONE. Add spirit and you are set.
You can make it through anything. On another post, I will share in more detail about panic attacks. Focusing on breath did not help me but mastery of breath did. We CAN affect change!
You can decide now if your anger can fuel you to follow through on real change, or if your sadness is actually the gift of empathy meant to elevate your compassion…. You are not here by accident. Let your experience and your feelings come together and inspire your life’s work.
AFFIRMATION: “My Life Overflows with Good. I make a difference in this world.”
Before you get tempted to roll your eyes at this very simple exercise, I want you to keep in mind that sometimes the simplest things in life can yield the best results. This is one of the exercises that my life coach gave me that I loved. It really helped me sort out, not just what I wanted to do in life, but how I wanted to FEEL.
NUMBER ONE… This exercise should be fun!
Allow yourself 5-10 minutes of quiet time to write your answers. I am a big believer in keeping a journal but feel free to print this page out. (A .pdf is available here) If you get stuck, think back to your childhood or a summer when you had a great time – what were you doing – or NOT doing?
Tip: If your thoughts seem overly simple – that’s ok. If your life is busy with not many options right now, find small things you CAN do for you (eg. a 20-minute walk before work or after dinner, organize a weekend away if a longer vacation isn’t possible, arrange a dinner with friends at a restaurant with a nice patio if you’re too tired to cook, drink more water, etc.).
Need some more ideas? Read a book, GOOGLE “Free Stuff Near Me” and see what comes up, try something new (it’s free, what have you got to lose?) Visit friends or family, relax on the beach, go fishing, meet new people, do something you used to love, listen to music, eat outside (at a park, beach, your backyard or even on your lunch break), get out in nature or perhaps do something completely different! And remember – your best summer ever may be about what you DON’T do as well…
Write the Top 10 things that would MAKE THIS YOUR BEST SUMMER EVER:
Imagine the sun is shining. You’re relaxed, happy, can’t help but smile and are at peace with yourself and the world.
This IS your “Best Summer Ever”. What are you doing? What’s going on in your life?
TOP TIP: The stronger this vision is, the more likely you are to have or do what you write. In other words, even if the idea is simple, write down as much detail as you can. For example, if you want to “Read a book,” expand and say, “I read “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I bought a soft cover book so I could stick it in my purse and read a few pages where ever I go. Just before bed, I make sure to read at least 2 pages. This is my partner’s favorite book, it makes me feel so connected to him/her now. I understand something new about her/him that makes me smile.”
In this little group of sentences, you have listed “your thing,” a practical plan to make your thing happen and how you feel about your thing. Do not underestimate this exercise. The simple act of writing things down can be a powerful tool in manifesting and making changes to your life. To read more about this follow THIS LINK.
I chose the summertime list because these plans can be easy enough. Many times, my clients want to make some BIG changes to the way they feel about life but they just need a place to start. Big changes can come from small steps. TRUST ME.

Let’s face it. Latina’s are known for their firey hot tempers. This may be a stereotype but the truth is that as we take on more challenging roles in our lives, we sometimes just need some help in managing our stress. Stress is simply the body’s response to changes when under pressure. Responses to “bad” stress or distress can manifest in our bodies and minds as:
- High blood pressure
For those of us that have suffered through any of these conditions, we have tried to manage and even abolish stress from our lives but…
Stress is not always a bad thing!
Did you know that there is “good stress”? The actual term for it is Eustress (Ironically sounds like YouStress)
Eustress, or positive stress, has the following characteristics:
- Focuses energy.
- Feels exciting.
- Improves performance.
When I work with clients, part of my job is to help them transition their DISTRESS into EUSTRESS. Often the difference between good stress and bad stress is a simple mindset adjustment. But because the mindset is new, it takes a little getting used to.

I read. A lot. I often share my favorite passages on Instagram, feel free to follow me there to get more excerpts from this and future literary finds.
I recently started reading a book that is blowing my mind. In spite of the work I have done to elevate my mindset, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker is provoking me to go deeper into my beliefs about money. It’s also causing me to be very conscious of the ABUNDANCE MINDSET vs. SCARCITY MINDSET that I see on social media. This is an edited version of a LIVE VIDEO I did on Instagram.
You can order new books online but I find paper books just come to me. I found Secrets of The Millionaire Mind at a second-hand store but I have had luck at yard sales, libraries, even in the trash!
Below you can check out some of the flicks I have posted about Millionaire Mind to my Instagram Stories.
Here is a photo of a treasure trove I found in a box outside my gym marked “FREE.” This was a pretty awesome collection. You Are The One by Kute Blackson was my favorite in the stash.
If you don’t like to read, there are many audio books available online. I searched for the title on youtube and came up with this
I love to pass on the information and knowledge I acquire. I hope it resonates with you and opens you up to exploring more of what YOUR potential is. Wishing you all, much love and prosperity!
